Cassie is an FBI agent trying to take down a white supremacist group. She thinks her way into the group (and her way to a promotion) lies in a hacker who she believes she can use as an informant. That hacker is Keaton, a cybercriminal who’s got his tabs on many parts of the underworld and who’s also trying to transition away from this life. Keaton and Cassie are almost instantly attracted to each other but how can a relationship between an FBI agent and cybercriminal work?

The heat between them! The plot! The intrigue! The suspense! I love a good action movie and I feel like this book was right up my alley.

The mystery to the book is like a cat-and-mouse game between Cassie and Keaton. I have no idea how the real FBI or cybercrime works, but I think Reiss did a great job of making the work seem pretty realistic for a fictional romance novel.

As for the romance, it does feel a bit insta-lusty at points. Cassie and Keaton were almost instantly attracted to one another despite the existence of some important roadblocks to a relationship. I think it moved a bit too fast considering that they’re supposed to be an FBI agent/criminal duo which comes with some professional issues for both of them, to put it kind of lightly, from both a job/danger perspective. Not that the book has to be super realistic, but I do think the romance could have been even more elevated had there been some more build-up and consideration of their personal situations.

Keaton is a cybercriminal but he’s not involved in the white supremacist group – he just has information about them. The actions of the group and the group itself aren’t described in much detail in case that’s something you’d rather not read about. However, there is some physical violence against both humans and animals that fits with the FBI/criminal romantic suspense theme.

Also, the book is steamy. Even though it’s part of a series, this book worked as a standalone for me. I hadn’t read the first book and I could still follow this one fine.

All in all, a super enjoyable romantic suspense. ★★★★ 4 stars!
